Outdoor Tiles
Encaustic/Terracotta tiles installed outdoors will naturally patina over time due to being exposed to the elements, which we feel adds to their beauty. You should always take advice from your installer about the best time for you to install your outdoor tiles, as some ancillary products such as adhesive, can sometimes only be used during certain ambient temperatures.
Bert & May would recommend installations be carried out during spring/summer when a few dry days are more achievable, as the Encaustic/Terracotta tiles need to dry out properly between each stage of installation. Installations during winter time, can cause moisture to be absorbed and if frost then gets in to the tiles it can cause the tiles to crack/split
Which tiles are best for outdoor spaces?
Tiles are a beautiful choice for outdoor areas like patios, terraces, and bars, as well as giving character to pathways and walls. The most important thing to consider is using the right material for outside to ensure that your designs hold up against the elements. The majority of our encaustic tiles are suitable for a range of uses including bathrooms and outside, as with proper sealant, they are water-resistant and highly durable. The only tiles that cannot be used on floors are the glazed tiles, as they're too slippery to walk on safely
Mediterranean exteriors with terracotta
Give your outdoor spaces the
rustic treatment with traditional, handmade terracotta tiles made in a specialised workshop in Spain. Used for centuries, the signature warm colouring brings a touch of the southern climes to your home. From deep red and orange, brown, and even chalky white, terracotta is naturally pigmented so contains a rich array of shades that come together to create an organic, inviting finish that beautifully compliments natural surroundings.
Our reclaimed tiles are full of personality and historical spirit. Sourced from Spain and France, these reclaimed terracotta tiles are all handmade and are never mass-produced for a truly unique touch to your home. Discover antique patterned tiles for eye-catching
floors and understated hexagonal tiles that flawlessly combine tradition and modernity.
Handmade Cement Tiles
Our extensive range of cement tiles gives you the freedom to be creative when it comes to designing your outdoor space. At Bert & May, we combine the pigment into the cement mix so the colours run through the entire tile, not just a glaze on top, giving the colours a rich, complex finish. Explore our cement range from classic neutral tiles to lively
geometric tiles, and contemporary herringbone tiles
